The challenge
How did we managed these obstacles?
To meet the ambitions of our stakeholders and user needs, we thought of an effortless yet powerful research technique that uncover the insights we needed to shift the perspectives of our partners.
We ideated impression testing and questions.
Prepared paper prototypes with lo-fi content.
Conducted a guerrilla test with 6 participants.
My responsibilities
Prepared testing and learning cards for the UXR.
Lead and prepared the impression test method and questions.
Analyze and share insights with the team.
Mentor the UXUI Designer in the next action items based on recommendations.
Lead strategy initiatives in how to communicate and articulate design decisions based on data gathered.
Insights and results
There was a high-chance that users are trying to understand what to do, and what is relevant. Making them go to the profile, and then dropping-off.
Overall results:
Users value more descriptive UI in order to guide them through the feed.
When descriptive UI is not applied, users are uninterested in exploring the feed and are curious to the things they recognize, or are familiar to them.
Users value seeing personality from creators when they are in social media spaces.
Our redesign approach
Users mainly expressed that they could not know what are the prompts and where they can find them.
Our approach:
Add extra information to the Home Feed title.
Integrate social media post-thoughts interaction so that creators can express how the prompt helps them and others.
Changed social interactions to be more accommodating and relatable to the main Gen Z audience.
Added view only social media likes to inspire users to click in post they see as more popular.
Card and content detail redesign
My impact
My methods and coaching impacted the team by:
Identified critical pain points in the user journey through strategic UX research, laying the foundation for improved engagement and product flow.
Drove a 3.12% increase in post-sign-up retention by designing targeted interventions that aligned user needs with business goals.
Secured cross-functional stakeholder buy-in to reimagine social interactions within the discovery feed, initiating a product shift toward deeper user engagement and community-driven features.
Take aways and Learnings
Understanding how our users use and see our products greatly impacts the user journey both positively or negatively.
Simple strategies and UI tweaks can bring security for both sides - Business and Users.
Agile does not mean fast. Fast progression can make anyone make mistakes, and handling problems with compassion brings unity to the whole team.
Credits and acknowledgements
I keep close connections with Estefanía Farías, mentoring in best practices regarding designing for AI experiences. All final designs are designed by her, while I'm partaking more of a product principality role.
